3:50 am - wake up and make my bed

4:00 - 5:30 - work on homework

6:00 - 7:00 - go to Lifetime and take an Alpha strength training class

7:30 - 8:30 - go to the same coffee shop every single day (Mochas and Javas) to read or inevitably do more homework

9:00 start school

Yes, that is my actual morning routine. I'm showing this because I believe it is an excellent test of my character; I'm an extremely disciplined, dedicated individual full of ambition. In my opinion, those are the qualities essential for leaders, and they all began and grew through DECA.

DECA Chapter Financial Officer

I am the Wakeland High School DECA Chapter Financial Officer. I am what you could say a "special exception," as the title didn't exist before me. My responsibility under this role was to individually review 49 written papers and make sure their financial projections, budgets, ROI, etc., were well calculated and justifiable. To tackle this large task, I created event-specific papers that guided our competitors through the financials required for their projects and told them how to calculate everything during a workshop I hosted. I learned that organization was an important skill as, throughout a couple of months, I labeled groups in different colors on a weekly basis so I could tell how far along they were and if they needed my help. Furthermore, I held 15+ 1:1 30-minute meetings with individuals and groups to help them revise their numbers. And, for the remaining, that could not make it in person (20+), I individually revised and commented on their papers. Moreover, as an officer, I help judge competitors' practice presentations and provide feedback based on my experience. Regarding that, I've judged around ten separate group and individual presentations.

Year Three

I joined DECA during my Freshman year with two partners, Natalie Tebeaux and Sarah Sonny. During that first year, we created The Life Pump--a pacemaker that utilized an efficient battery source long enough to last a patient's lifetime while maintaining smaller in size. This product removed the problems of hospitalization costs and postoperative complications and allowed children of young ages to go through implantation. With this project, we won 4th place at the International level. During our Sophomore year, we created The NephroPen, a product designed to cure chronic kidney disease and diabetes-induced kidney disease through stem cell regeneration. Doctors obtained a patient's personal cells (limited to only skin and blood), which then went through cellular identification within our laboratory facilities to become induced pluripotent stem cells (IPS). They would then be injected back into the kidney area and allow the body to heal the damaged kidney tissue

creating a possible cure for kidney disease.  With this project, we won 1st place at the international level. Our idea for Junior year will not be released until the competition rounds are over for copyright and privacy reasons.
