New Beginnings - Weekly Report #6

- Shana Tova!

Monday, September 26th, was the Jewish New Year. So, Shana Tova (happy new year)! I had a fantastic New Year, if you're wondering (which I know you definitely are). We ate apples and honey, sweet marinated steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans cooked with almonds. I'm hungry just thinking about it...We always eat sweet things to start the year happily and joyfully. However, I was in for a rude awakening when I went to religious services for 3 hours. I have learned my attention span has significantly decreased due to social media, thus my predisposition to boredom.

Back to ISM, this week in class has been very relaxed. Very...zen. I spent Tuesday playing a bit of catch-up in the class. On Thursday, we mainly went over Business Symposium and expectations for the day. I'm excited to practice networking and improve my communications/speaking skills at Business Symposium. There will be one-on-one interviews with business professionals along with speeches. I plan on looking up some commonly asked interview questions and just having a few questions in mind to ask. I believe no matter how serious an event is, one should always prepare so that one may present the best version of themselves. Especially because I want to use this as a practice before attending actual business events.

Now, about my interview. It went amazingly! Or at least I believe it did; it's hard to tell a person's emotions solely off their voice. However, Mr. Matsen, the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at the Cleveland Clinic, permitted me to use his name in the public domain. So, I do believe that it is a good sign. I asked around 10 questions, and the interview lasted almost 30 minutes. I started by asking about how he got to his position at the company, then what his day-to-day responsibilities entail. Furthermore, I asked specific questions about the Cleveland Clinic and future questions about the market. Overall, I learned so many things, which isn't just a formality; it's the truth. If you want to see the specific questions and his answers, I will have the interview document available under the Research tab!

I will use the interview as my fifth research assessment, and I'm now looking for other business professionals to interview. I have a few people in mind, but I'm now just organizing and updating my WIX website. I hope to implement all the marketing skills, such as SEO, which I plan to learn to gain website traffic. However, that will only happen after I clean up my site and make it presentable...it's a work-in-progress as of now. Looking to the future, Business Symposium is on Wednesday, along with Yom Kippur, so I will be a little cranky while fasting. We also have our 5th assessment due, and the call log deadline is approaching. I'm excited about future interviews, working more on my calls, and Business Symposium!
