This is my study and academic vision board I made for the new year!!
Today is the first day back from our two-week winter break. It is also my birthday; I'm officially 17!!! As Stevie Nicks said, I'm officially on the edge. Anyway, the break was amazing, and honestly well needed. My life is quite busy, so it was nice to have a little bit of time to simply relax and work on my personal passion projects. However, I will say that I did struggle with a little bit of guilt surrounding the lack of productivity. There's this idea (written in my own words) that I always like to remember, that I believe is useful in combating those thoughts, "If you feel guilty while resting due to your lack of action, then you are not resting, you are fighting your mind" - Sam Stein.
Regarding my "true" break, I left on December 23rd and spent 5 days in Cleveland, Ohio with some family. There isn't that much to do in that are, however, it is a beautiful place. And the small businesses add to the character of the town I was in (which I won't disclose for privacy reasons). Unfortunately there was a blizzard while we were in town, thus, it was extremely cold. I wasn't necessarily prepared clothing wise for the -15 degree temperature that ensued while we were there, however, I was at least predisposed to the snow and icy air due to my consistent ski trips. Overall, my Cleveland trip was a very fun time; I learned how to play pool the "proper" way and I was taught Texas Hold Em' (a game I'm apparently very good at).
Once I got back home, I indulged in my personal projects such as my website, and writing works. Although my website was created for ISM and my Original Work (OW) project, I genuinely enjoy and treat it as my personal work. Since I submitted my OW project, I've worked almost 14 hours on my website, here's my log of edits:
12/18/22 | Sunday | Personal Website Editing | 95 min
I added a description for what DECA is, added a slider on my home page to begin listing all my current projects, I added two more pages (I haven't begun to edit them) for SET and PCF, I added a footnote (or whatever it's called to use as basically a free for all for every link on my site - I NEED TO begin a page for my campaign and everything I wanna do, start adding content to PCF and SET page, finish the home page, update my blog for my weekly reports, rework the structure of a lot of my pages bc they all look the same, finish the footnote, solidify my color scheme and edit my website accordingly, THERE'S SO MUCH TO DO
12/19/22 | Monday | Personal Website Editing | 57 min
I continued adding descriptions, and editing pages, really need to work on my campaign page ASAP
12/19/22 | Monday | Personal Website Editing | 9 min
Added transcript under "CV" anchor, education section
12/20/22 | Tuesday | Personal Website Editing | 42 min
finished CV section
12/28/22 \Wednesday | Personal Website Editing | 51 min
Finished the home page!! Created a new page called "current projects" - deleted all tabs other than that and my blog - this page will link to all of my works and will include a main page, description, and link to any other websites or instagrams - i still need to put the face description for all of them, a main photo, and begin crafting their individual pages (some already have one, others are still in progress) - edited the mobile version a bit
12/30/22 | Friday | Personal Website Editing | 80 min
Edited the current projects page a bunch, can't decide if I want to keep the long paragraphs or just shorten them and create individual pages for each...looked into buying the domain, i believe it's $200 for a year, it's kind of a lot, but I'm going to have to do it to get data eventually
12/31/22 | Saturday | Personal Website Editing | 189
I basically began to make an entirely new home page - the wifi sucks right now and nothing is loading which makes this extremely frustrating to do - I spent about an hour looking at other personal website examples and I got very inspired and I wanted to redo the home page, so I did - I have a ton of ideas, but I need a break it's been over 3 hours in one day.........
1/1/23 | Sunday | Personal Website Editing | 70 min
I kept editing the new home page, noticed that my content doesn't fill up the page when it's published - I don't know how to fix that, also, I have a bunch of text that apparently won't show up on tablet screens or ipads, again I don't really know how to fix that without editing the whole site :(
1/6/22 | Friday | Personal Website Editing | 199
I added a ton of animations, worked on overall editing - I didn't fill out a description after this session, but I know most of my time was spent on my new homepage - It's done as of now, but I still don't know how to fix the published version, I'm going to bring it up to my mentor when I meet with him on the 11th - my blog wasn't working for a while, and now it's back up so I'm glad for that - I have soooo many ideas for editing the page!!!!
Overall I made a ton of progress on my website, and a lot of regression too, but I've learned so much already. I have a laundry list of questions I need to ask my mentor, and the same amount of projects to show as well. I'm meeting with him tomorrow, so I'm super excited. January is going to be unbelievably busy, we have so many things due in ISM, and I have so many projects I need to work on!! I'm very grateful for everything though, and intrigued to see how it all plays out. Until next week,
- Samantha Stein
