Resting - Weekly Report #12

sfstein007

I was going to take this blog to talk about my interview today. However, when I woke up in the morning, it seemed the day would take a different route. Last night I had not felt so well, and combined with the fact that I got a little sleep, I woke up feeling horrible. Considering other members of my family had previously gotten sick, and I was showing their symptoms, I decided to stay home and, unfortunately, cancel my interview. Michelle was very understanding, and we plan on rescheduling after the break.

In other news, my mentor, Ron, has invited my family and me to the company's annual wrap party, where they wrap gifts for senior homes. I'm very excited! Furthermore, considering I got to sleep a few extra hours this morning, I feel much better. So, I will still have my follow-up interview with Erin tomorrow.

I think my Original Work project has changed. I've joined a project for the Bills of Rights Institute called MyImpact. Alongside a group of younger kids (from the same high school as mine), we have decided to host a student tradeshow. We've only begun to test out the kinks, but the opportunity to market an event on social media, and create a personal website, completely fell into my hands. How could I say no? I've already started working on the beginning name of the event, the logo, the color scheme, and all the fun design parts of marketing. I'm excited to see how this plays out!

I do want to talk about the continuation of my data analytic research. I enjoyed this past assessment because I learned how analysts group their data to understand it better.

- Regression analytics uses data for predictions but relies on other analyses as it cannot show cause and effect alone.

- Factor analysis, otherwise known as dimensional analysis, is when an analyst condenses the data to a low dimensional plane (1D) to extract meaningful information easily.

- Cohort analysis breaks down users from an application and groups them based on behavior. After adding time intervals, this allows analysts to recognize user behavior patterns and find ways to optimize favored actions.

- Cluster analysis is similar to the one mentioned above but is more generic as it creates groups from situations where no determined audiences existed.

- Timer series analysis is, as the name alludes, looking at different variables in company profit or engagement and how they've changed over time. This is crucial in understanding patterns, finding cycles, and optimizing revenue.

Overall, I enjoyed this assessment as I hadn't known any of this information. I hope to bring this up in upcoming interviews to ask how important this knowledge is for daily activities. Marketing is not necessarily about what intricate, specific things you know but rather having a good understanding of the technology and how you can use it.

Looking to the future, we have another etiquette meal this week, I have an interview tomorrow, and this weekend starts Thanksgiving Break! For me, however, it will just be a continuation of school, as many extracurriculars will not stop just because I'm not inside the school halls. Remember always to take time to rest when you need it :) Until next week,

- Samantha Stein
