This week in class, we began to sink further into the soil that is the workforce industry. Our first assignment was a rough draft of our essay. As I briefly mentioned last week, I did have a resume going into this, but I quickly realized how out-of-date it was and how I felt it didn't truly represent me.
I changed the color scheme to what seems to be the one color I have and will continue to use on every project, teal blue. I also got to use the adobe color wheel to find the monochromatic scale for complimentary colors on my resume. Overall, I spent most of my time making minor changes like adding boxes, moving boxes, and changing the color of said boxes. I truly felt like a marketer. Along this path, I did start designing my business card. It's not required for this course, but considering the industry I want to go into, it would be very beneficial.
The second assignment this week was our second research assessment. I hated it. Well, I take that back. I hated the lack of boundaries. I always liked school because I was given a template, a simple guide of what was expected of me, and all I usually had to do was fill in the blanks. However, I quickly realized that ISM is nothing like that. I felt immense anxiety over this project because I didn't know where to start. There was no guide or specific requirements. All I had to do was to create an annotated bibliography with 5 sources discussing anything about my field of study. Anything...I am unfortunately admitting that this predicament caused procrastination. Although, from a positive perspective, it gave me further insight on how to stop said procrastination in the future...(pun intended).
As of today, the professional dress video is due. In ISM we are expected to conduct interviews and meetings with potential mentors or overall business professionals. Not to mention, we always represent the curriculum and our school in said environments. Thus, our teachers want to be sure we fully understand the different dress codes and the professionalism expected of us. Luckily, I'm a fashion fanatic and just went shopping for professional clothes. I'm simply going to compile a few of my looks that I already have videos of and film some extra outfits tonight.
Looking forward to next week, we will be working on our third research assessment, essentially like the second one, but with different sources. Furthermore, I will start working on my call log. It is an assignment that is due a little less than a month away and is a report of 20+ calls or outreach to business professionals. Essentially it is proof that we are beginning to look for a mentor and establish overall roots in our field of study. I am extremely excited about this as I love social activity and the idea of already reaching out to experienced personnel.
